According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the state saw the unemployment rate fall from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent in the month of December. In job numbers, the job market in the state added 20,200 nonfarm jobs to the payrolls in the month of December. For the year, the addition of 204,500 jobs is on record. The Numbers for 2011
By the end of the year, the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting that the Dallas and Fort Worth metro area added some 50,000 jobs from October of 2010. That is a good level of improvement overall. However, when it comes to improving the job outlook, there are still many things weighing on the local economy. Some estimates indicate that over the next two years, the region will improve its employment by three percent. That could mean an additional 188,000 jobs being added to the city. Payrolls have now expanded in the Dallas area for seven straight months in a row, with another .1% drop in unemployment and nearly 33,000 jobs added in April alone.
