Dallas Job Market - Drop in Unemployment


In the Dallas job market, there is reports of improving conditions. More so, the region is seeing some new jobs added to the payrolls and that is helping to get people back to work. Though there is still a long way to go for individuals to find the positions they need to have to live the lifestyle that's right for them, this slow growth can be a good thing.

The News Out

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the state saw the unemployment rate fall from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent in the month of December. In job numbers, the job market in the state added 20,200 nonfarm jobs to the payrolls in the month of December. For the year, the addition of 204,500 jobs is on record.

What about Dallas? The job market in the Dallas Fort Worth region also saw a drop. The unemployment numbers say that the region has an unemployment rate of 7.1 percent right now, which is in comparison to the 7.4 percent it was at in November. In December of 2010, the Dallas area has an unemployment rate of 8 percent.

Is it enough? There is no doubt that there are thousands of Dallas citizens who are still looking for work and who need to find stable employment still out there. However, these numbers indicate that the Dallas economy and the Texas economy as a whole is improving. This could signal an improvement in the overall outlook for the year. Many believe that additional jobs will be added throughout 2012.
